When Brush Takes Over

Overgrowth tends to happen a little at a time.

At first, you might have some weeds or a few small saplings along the edge of the yard. Leave that area alone for a while and things start filling in.

Eventually, getting through it becomes a pain.

This happens a lot along wooded property lines and in areas that are difficult to mow. Old fence lines can disappear behind growth. Parts of a backyard can slowly become unusable because the brush has gotten too thick.

There is also the stuff growing underneath everything else.

Vines can get tangled through shrubs and small trees. Fallen branches get buried underneath new growth. Once an area reaches that point, cleaning it up yourself can turn into a much bigger project than expected.

That is usually when we get the call.

You want your space back.

An overgrown section of property might not look very useful right now, but clearing it can completely change how that area feels.

What Can Be Removed During Brush Clearing?

Every overgrown property looks a little different.

Some are mostly covered in smaller vegetation. Others have saplings mixed in with thicker growth and fallen branches that have been sitting there for years.

We start by looking at the area and figuring out what you want gone.

That may mean cutting back thick brush or removing small unwanted growth. We can also deal with branches and other woody debris that are making the area difficult to use.

Larger trees are a separate situation.

If there are established trees mixed into the area, we can work around the ones you want to keep. If you have a larger tree that needs to come down as part of the project, we can talk about tree removal separately.

The point is to clear what needs to go without automatically stripping the entire area. For heavier growth or larger areas, forestry mulching may be another option.

Clearing Property Lines and Wooded Edges

The edge between a yard and the woods is one of the easiest places for brush to take over.

It creeps forward.

A little new growth shows up each year and the usable part of the yard slowly gets smaller. Branches extend farther out while smaller plants fill in underneath them.

Clearing that edge can open the property back up.

The same goes for property lines. Thick growth can make it difficult to walk the boundary or even see where parts of the property begin and end.

You may not want a perfectly cleared strip. That is fine.

Cleaning Up Neglected Areas

Some parts of a property have simply been left alone for a long time.

Maybe it was already overgrown when you bought the house. Maybe you had no reason to use that section of the yard until now.

Either way, years of growth can hide quite a bit.

Old branches may be buried underneath the brush. Small trees can grow close together and vines can make everything harder to separate.

Cleaning up an area like that is not always a matter of running through it with a weed trimmer for an afternoon.

Once it is cleared, you can actually see what you are working with and decide what you want to do with the area next.

What Happens During a Brush Clearing Job?

First, show us the area.

Tell us what you want to accomplish with it. Some homeowners want a section completely opened up. Others want the heavy growth knocked back while keeping certain trees or natural areas in place.

That makes a big difference.

We will look at how thick the growth is and what is mixed in with it. Access matters too, especially when the area is farther back on the property.

From there, we can figure out what the job will involve.

We would rather know what you want the finished area to look like before we start than make assumptions about what should stay or go.

What About Stumps?

It depends on what is being cleared.

Removing brush and cutting down small woody growth can still leave material near or below ground level. Larger stumps may need additional work if you want the area smoother or plan to use it for something else.

That is where stump grinding may make sense.

If there are larger stumps in the area you want cleared, let us know what you plan to do with the space afterward. We can talk about whether grinding them should be part of the project.

If you are simply opening up a wooded edge, that may not matter as much.

The end goal makes the difference.

Can you leave certain trees when clearing brush?

Yes. Let us know what you want to keep. Brush clearing does not have to mean removing everything growing in the area.
